Bolognese pasta sauce
Bertolli Bolognese pasta sauce is based on a traditional Italian recipe from Bologna and is flavoured with minced meat and fresh herbs. The sauce originated in the Emilia-Romagna region and gets its name from the city of Bologna. Traditionally, this sauce is eaten with Tagliatelle, a traditional pasta from the same region, or as Lasagna alla Bolognese. This pasta sauce is made from a delicious ‘soffritto’ made from extra virgin olive oil and herbs. A soffrito is a mixture of small chopped vegetables gently cooked in oil. These gently cooked vegetables are the base of the sauce and give it an intense and full flavour.

Francesco Bertolli and his wife Caterina opened a delicacy shop after which they started exporting Italian products to Italian migrants around the world.
